    Six new members were inducted into the National Honor Society during Kimball's annual NHS Induction ceremony – a momentous occasion for four sophomores, one junior, and one senior. Member Madison Wynne said, "It has been an honor to be inducted into NHS. I am very happy that I was nominated and being recognized for all of the hard work that we students have put in.     As one Kimball teacher battles ovarian cancer, another sets out to prove that no one fights alone. Kathleen O’Brien, longtime Kimball teacher, has been fighting cancer but Jeri Ferguson and her high school civics class, in a show of support, have planned a fundraiser for her.     The Kimball junior high girls won the Potter-Dix junior high track meet, held on Wednesday, April 12, at the Kimball High School. The Kimball girls won the meet with a whopping 183 points, 71 points ahead of the closest competition, Leyton with 112. Pine Bluffs girls took third with 92, Minatare had 91, Potter-Dix 52 and Banner County 41. Samantha Bemis brought in 30 points independently.     The Kimball High School speech team competed in the district speech competition last week in North Platte and is sending 10 of 11 students to Kearney, today, Thursday, March 23 for the state competition in seven events. Nicholas Thomas-Lewis and Desyree Nelson competed in Persuasive speaking at the district meet where Thomas-Lewis earned first place and qualified for the state meet.     The Kimball High School speech team competed on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Scottsbluff against seven other schools from the C and D division, and Kimball came away with a first place win. A young Kimball man saved an elderly woman from a burning car, the Goodhand Theater was reopened, a small group of young ladies made wrestling history, the Kimball Event Center was saved, some area youth met a famous movie star, the Kimball Jr. Sr. High School got a facelift and the local Legion baseball team was revived.     Kimball FFA celebrated the 2016-17 Greenhand ceremony on Friday, Dec. 15 at the Harry E. McNees Auditorium and in the school's agriculture building. The ceremony is called the Greenhand Ceremony as it marks a member's first year with the leadership organization.     What can you do, with your abilities, to help those in need? That question led two local sisters to help out those in need, from the basketball court. Kimball High School’s Kate Reader, a sophomore, and sister, Alex Reader, a junior, decided to help out those who are fighting cancer, through a foundation called Team Ashtyn.
