Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

Some good happenings for Kimball High athletes and their fans. The football team got that big win they have been needing so badly. The cross country team had some really great efforts from their kids. The girl’s golf team had their best team performance up at Mitchell shooting their best team score, and the volleyball team finished second at the Gordon Tournament. Keep up the good work Longhorns!

---------------

Of special note, freshman runner Chantel malson, almost set a new freshman record at the Kimball Invitational cross country meet. She ran fifth in the girl’s varsity race and her time of 22:44 over the 5,000 meter course leaves her trailing only Kaitlin Moritz who holds the record at 21:55. Her time also moves her into 6th place, all class, on the Kimball High record book.

Congrats also to Kimball’s Zach Wagner and Thomas Lenzen who ran 9th and 10th in the boy’s varsity race pushing each other to the finish line with Wagner a nose ahead with his time of 19:28 and Lenzen at 19:29. Congrats also to Banner County High’s Deven Sullivan who ran third in 18:51.

To medal in this meet with 13 schools involved and over 200 runners, is quite an accomplishment. There were 83 boys finish with times and 65 girls. There were also 49 junior high boys and 36 junior high girls.

It was a near perfect day although some runners may have wanted it a tad bit cooler. The course was well established and Kimball school officials ran the meet well. No wonder we had so many schools wanting to run this meet such as Cheyenne South, Wheatland, Torrington, and Pine Bluffs from neighboring Wyoming.
