Bemis sets new school triple jump record at Bayard B-C-D meet

Kimball had some highlights at the Bayard B-C-D Track Invite this past week, but none brighter than the winning triple jump mark by freshman, Sam Bemis, which also established a new Kimball High all-time record for the event. Bemis got out 34'2.5" to win the event and better the old mark of 33'9.5" set by Shelby Vogel in 2014.

The jumps were once again a strong point for Kimball as Jenna Greenwood finished 3rd in the triple jump at 32'9" for a very good mark and Megan Spicer was one place out of a medal in the triple jump with her 7th place finish at 31'8.5".

Hannah Biesecker is back on track in the long jump and won her pet event at Bayard with a best jump of 16'1.5" and Spicer, also a freshman, was 5th at 15'3.5" Greenwood also took 4th in the high jump at 4'6" and Bemis had a PR in the pole vault of 8'4", which was 7th and out of the money.

The Kimball girls scored 47 points to finish 6th in the team standings of the 13 school field, which included several of the larger B class schools. The 4x100 relay team of Bemis, Greenwood, Spicer and Biesecker ran 5th with their time of 53.02. Carli Wurdeman was close to a medal in the discus finishing 7th with a throw of 95'7" and Biesecker made the finals in the 100 meter dash where she ran 7th in 13.87.

Brady Kilgore came through with yet another win in the 110 meter hurdles, clocking 15.97, and also took 3rd in the high jump at 5'10". Kaden Adrian is really coming on in the 800 meter run and finished 2nd at Bayard with his time of 2:05.92.

The Longhorns other places came in the relays where they finished 4th in the 4x100 relay with a time of 47.21. Team members were Christian Allen-Van Pelt, Byron Rowley, Brayden Tyan and Brady Kilgore. The 4x800 relay team of Nicholas Thomas-Lewis, Zachery Wagner, Sam Cajero and Kaden Adrian also ran 4th with their time of 9:11.48. Beau Hanks was close in the jumps finishing 7th in the triple jump at 37'10", just ahead of teammate Brayden Tyan in 8th at 37'7.5". Hanks was 8th in the long jump at 18'1.5".

The Longhorns missed out on a lot of near-sure points in the pole vault with all 3 of their top vaulters missing this meet. Paycen Harroun was sitting out with a sore back. Jaden Mohr was out with a severe ankle sprain and Ethan Ratzlaff had an eligibility problem. Hopefully, all three will be ready to go for Districts this week.

The track District Meet for state qualifying spots will take place today (Thursday) at Sutherland with a 10 a.m. Mountain time start time and a favorable weather forecast was in place at the time of this writing.
