Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

It’s District competition time. The Kimball High Track Team will be at District in Sutherland today (Thursday), with a start time of 10 a.m. Mountain Time. Two of the Longhorn tracksters will be looking for return trips to the State meet in Omaha May 18-19. Brady Kilgore finished 5th at State last year as a sophomore and senior, Hannah Biesecker, is a veteran at the State meet in the long jump. The Horns have other athletes who have a chance as well. Good Luck Kimball.

District boy’s golf is Tuesday and you fans won’t have to travel far as Kimball is hosting at the Four Winds next Tuesday, May 15th. The top 3 teams and top 10 individuals will qualify for the State Tournament coming up May 22-23 in Kearney. Kimball is the defending champions and should repeat if everything goes as expected.

In other golf news, you can scratch that combined men’s league golf scramble that was listed for this Sunday, May 13th. Those in charge realized this is Mother’s Day and probably not a good idea to have a men’s golf day. They have moved the date back one week to May 20th at 1 p.m., so sign up for the new date.

Also, a reminder, once again, to anyone wanting a GHIN handicap card, contact Pat O’Brien at 235-5009 and this applies to anyone not involved in league play.

Also coming up June 2-3, is a Four Winds Member-Guest tournament. The Saturday format is a two-person scramble and Sunday is a Best Ball. There is also an optional par 3 play on Friday evening to kick things off and is included in the price, as well as, a Saturday evening meal. For more info, and to sign your team up, call the Pro Shop at 235-4241.

Congrats going out to Samantha Bemis for setting a new Kimball High School girl’s triple jump record of 34’2.5” at the Bayard B-C-D meet this past week. You do know that Sam is just a freshman, don’t you? What a future this young lady has, especially when she gets her knees feeling 100%.

Congrats to Jordan Greenwood and his Southeast Community College Golf Team for winning the Regional play at York Country Club this past week. Now they head to the National meet for the Junior College schools in Foley, Alabama. Jordan, by the way, finished 3rd in individual play at the Regional Tournament.
