Kimball's Zane Anthony prepares to hit his tee shot at Bridgeport. A good day for Zane as he shot the medalist round of 73 to claim medalist honors and lead his team to the winning team score of 317.
The Kimball High Boy's Golf Team got the season underway with two wins this past week capturing the team titles at Mitchell with their team score of 323 and improving that score to 317 in winning the Bridgeport Tournament.
At the Mitchell Tournament, Alliance finished runner-up with 350, followed by Bridgeport with 363, Gering 374, Chadron 381, Morrill 383, Garden County 384, Crawford 403, Mitchell 408, Scottsbluff JV 420, Mitchell JV 428, Creek Valley 431 and Bayard 468.
Bridgeport senior, Eric Stevens, took top individual honors with his medalist round of 74. Kimball's Dillon Wise was runner-up for individual honors with his round of 77 with teammate Andrew McCloud just one stroke back in 3rd place at 78. Kimball had 4 golfers in the top ten medal group with Zane Anthony 5th with 81 and Izaac Reuter 8th with 87. Kole Bush was close to the medal group with his round of 90.
After one day off, the Longhorns were right back in action at the Bridgeport Tournament for their second team victory winning with an improved score of 317, which averages out to 79.25 strokes per player. Bridgeport finished runner-up with 338, followed, in order, by Mullen with 352, Gordon-Rushville 362, Garden County 366, Morrill 380, Mitchell 397, Scottsbluff JV 411, Bridgeport JV 436, Hemingford 438, Creek Valley 440, Bayard 448, Hyannis, Chase County and Hay Springs had golfers, but not enough for a team score.
Zane Anthony led Kimball to the win, taking medalist honors with a great round of 73. Bridgeport's Eric Stevens took individual runner-up honors with his round of 76, edging out Kimball's Dillon Wise who finished 3rd with 77. Once again, the Horns had 4 golfers in the top ten medal group with Izaac Reuter 4th, with his round of 81 and Andrew McCloud 9th with 86. Kole Bush shot 90 once again to just finish out of the medal group.
Coach Chad Wise was happy with the wins, but said, "We know we can shoot better and score better. I told the guys we need to finish our rounds stronger. We seem to have our higher hole scores in the final 2 or 3 holes. We will work on this mentally."
The Kimball team was busy again this week as they were scheduled to play at Morrill this past Tuesday and at Chase County on Wednesday. This coming Monday (April 23), they are at Scottsbluff with a 9 a.m. start time.
