Longhorns drop games to Perkins County and Bridgeport

The Kimball boys suffered losses to Perkins County and Bridgeport in SPVA Conference Tournament play this past week, leaving them at 4-9 on the season.

Chase County is the conference champion in this year’s tournament play, winning out 43-41 over North Platte St. Pat’s in the title game. Perkins County wound up third with their win over Sutherland.

Kimball traveled to Grant for the first round game with Perkins County and found themselves down 15-7 at the end of the first period and trailed 24-19 at half time. Coach Luke Dea got scoring out of only five players in the loss to the Plainsmen with Izaac Reuter high with 15 as he converted seven of 15 shots from the field and ½ at the line. Beau Hanks was in double figures with 12 on 5/7 shooting including 2/3 on three point fielders. Brady Kilgore finished with six points, Corey Travis four and Kole Bush two. A good floor game for Zane Anthony who led the team in assists with seven and had four rebounds to share top honors with Reuter. Reuter and Travis both charted three steals.

In a Friday night losers bracket game, Kimball went up against Bridgeport, a 54-38 loser to Chase County in their first round pairing. Bridgeport got the win with a 48-37 score.

A good night for sophomore Brendan Walker who was high for Kimball with 11 points on 5/7 shooting from the field with one trey. Sophomore teammate Beau Hanks had seven with one trey. Izaac Reuter had seven, Brady Kilgore five with one trey, Zane Anthony four and Colton Mielke three with his trey. Anthony another all around solid night of play with give rebounds, five steals and four assists to go with his four points. Walker also pulled four rebounds.

Coach Luke Dea credited Bridgeport with shooting well. While Kimball was charted with 17 turnovers, they also caused the winners to turn the ball over 21 times. A big night for Eric Stevens, who led the winners with 15 points going 5/9 on three point attempts. Logan Nichols also hit three treys for nine points and Drake DeMasters had 10 points.

The Kimball boys are at home Friday night hosting Sutherland with JV game times at 3:30 followed by the girls varsity game at 5 p.m. and the boys varsity at 6:30. FREE ADMISSION for everyone, so please plan to attend and show support for the Kimball teams. It is also TeamMates Mentor Recognition Night and the Knights of Columbus will be holding a spaghetti feed. On Saturday the Kimball teams will travel to North Platte St. Pat;s for game beginning at 1 and 2:30 for the junior varsity and 4 and 5:30 for the girls and boys varsity.
