Maxine Luella Lanning

Maxine Luella Lanning, age 98, died on Jan. 23, 2018 at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29 at Crossroads Community Church, Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, with Pastor Dan DeBruyn officiating. Burial will be at the Kimball cemetary.

Maxine was born October 1, 1919 at Burton, Nebr. to Eddie LeRoy and Flora May (Trumbull) Gulick.

The family moved to Banner County, Nebr., in 1928, where she attended and graduated high school in 1937. She attended Chadron Teacher College then taught at Bellview District 1, Banner County for 2 years.

Maxine married Melvin York Lanning at Kimball, Nebr. June 2, 1940. They lived in Banner County until 1944 when they moved to their home in western Kimball County, where they farmed until they retired in 1980 and moved to Pine Bluffs, Wyo., where she lived until 2016 when she moved to Cheyenne, Wyo. Melvin passed away in 1998.

Melvin and Maxine enjoyed traveling, seeing 48 states, Mexico Canada, often accompanied by her parents. She taught Sunday school, led the Girls Missionary Guild Bible studies and mission circle of Pine Bluffs' Baptist Church of which she was a member. She was also a member of a pinochle club for many years, which she really enjoyed. For many years she volunteered one day a week at a local care and share store. Maxine and Melvin drove a bus and were chaperones for many years for the high school geology trip; they followed the school sports teams and always enjoyed family-she was one of six girls and they visited each other regularly-and loved aving her kids and grandkids visit.

Survivors are her son Gene (Carol); grandchildren Stewart (Dawn) of Pine Bluffs and Stacy (Todd) of Laramie, Wyo., daughter Kay (Roy) Edmunds, grandchildren Pat (Joanne) Haefele of Wisconsin, Kelly (Jenny) Haefele of Cheyenne and Kristen (Tom) Trump of Cheyenne; sisters Glenna Streeks of Gering, and Jannett Connour of Cheyenne, and sister in law, LaVetra Lanning of Pine Bluffs, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, sisters Donna Olsen, Imogene Anderson and Janice Snyder.
