Potter-Dix ladies have another winning week

No surprises when it comes to Lance Juelfs' Lady Coyotes on the season.

The Potter-Dix ladies came out of last week with three wins, including wins over Kimball, Leyton and Hay Springs.

Potter-Dix faced-off with Kimball last Tuesday night Jan. 9 at home, putting up 16 points in the first quarter to Kimball's three, in the second period Potter-Dix was able to put up 12 but the Longhorns put up nine on the board leaving the score 28-12 Potter-Dix.

After half-time both Kimball and Potter-Dix put up 11 points, and in the fourth period it was Kimball putting up nine to Potter-Dix's six points. However the effort wasn't enough to top the Coyotes in a 45-32 win over Kimball.

For the Lady Coyote, senior Audrey Juelfs, led the way with 16 points and 15 rebounds on the game, right behind her was senior Payge Hoffman with 11 points, senior Trinity Langley added 10 points, freshman Kelsey Hoffman with five and junior Brooke Moench with three.

The second win of the week came against conference rival Leyton in Potter. The Lady Coyotes led 26-11 at the half. Leyton was able to put up seven points in the third quarter to Potter-Dix's three but it was Potter-Dix who pulled it out in the final period for a final score of 40-24.

"The game in Hay Springs on Satuday was a good challenge for our team. We didn't start the game mentally focused and let Hay Springs get a decent lead on us, which doesn't happen very often," said Coach Julefs.

The five starters were the only ones to have fouls in the game so the Lady Coyotes were forced to go to their bench, "our bench played very well," he added.

"It wasn't the kind of win that I like to see, but we kept an open mind about it and chose to be optimistic because playing in some close games throughout the course of the season rather than 20 point blowouts, will make us better when we start to get into some close games," said Juelfs.

Leading the way again was Juelfs with 17 points and 14 rebounds for another double double on the season. Moench was able to put up 12 points for the Lady Coyotes, followed by Trinity Langley with seven and K. Hoffman and P. Hoffman with two each.

Saved the best for last, you could say as the final game of the weekend was in Hay Springs against the Hawks.

It was a back and forth game with Potter-Dix being down 14-10 at the end of the first period. The second quarter was pretty even-Hay Springs put up 10 to Potter-Dix's nine points to bring the score at the end of the first half 19-24, with the Lady Coyotes heading into the locker room down by five. In the third quarter though it was Potter-Dix who put the points, with the Coyotes scoring 15 to the Hawks 10 points tying the game at 34 each. Yet again on the season it was Potter-Dix who pulled away scoring 13 points to Hay Springs' seven, adding one more win to the Lady Coyotes season with a 47-41 victory.

It was Juelfs yet again making her presence known with 19 points and 11 rebounds for her 10 double double on

the season. Not far behind was P. Hoffman with 13 points, followed by Lagley with eight, Moench with three and K. Hoffman and Makayla Merz with two.

As for Juelfs' thoughts on the seasons he said it is going just like he thought it would.

"Audrey Juelfs is having an excellent year and the other four (starters) have stepped up tremendously to help her out. It has been nice to see that every game we have someone different helping Audrey score. Our defense is improving, which was one of our goals for the season, and that will help us out down the stretch when we have to play three games a week."

Potter-Dix is now 10-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference. Next on tap for the Lady Coyotes is Minatare as they will play the Lady Indians who are 2-8 on the season and 1-2 in conference in tournament play. If the Lady Coyotes can pull of another win they will play today, Thursday Jan. 18 and if the can grab another win that night they will play in the Championship at 8 p.m. on Saturday in Bridgeport.

"We are going into the MAC tournament looking for their fourth straight MAC Tournament Championship."
