Garrett Pedersen Gold Medal Winner at Banner County Tournament

Kimball High senior, Garrett Pedersen, had a career best day this past Saturday, as he captured the championship of the 120 point weight class at the Banner County Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Pedersen ran his season record to 8-2 as he wrestled his way through the bracket winning all five matches he was involved with and had 4 pins and a major decision to his credit. His fastest pin on the day was a fourteen second fall over Keim of Bridgeport. In the championship match, he won a 12-3 decision from his Kimball High teammate, Jordan Cluff, and leaving Kimball with the top two spots in this weight class.

Jordan Cluff brought home the second place silver medal by virtue of his 4-1 record at Banner County, registering 3 falls, including a fastest pin of fifteen seconds of Mason of Garden County. Along with his 3 pins on the day, he also had a 19-10 major decision of Schmidt of North Park, and then had his lone loss of the day to Pedersen. His season record now stands at 7-2.

Connor Cluff at 126, placed 4th and 2-3 on the day and is now 4-5 on the young season. Coach Wade Brashear said "Jaden Mohr wrestled very well and was 3-2 in the 132 pound weight class, but just missed out on a top four placing". Mohr ended up 5th and had 3 pins on the day running his season record to 5-5. Ethan Ratzlaff at 152 pounds, placed 4th and recorded 1 pin and is now 2-6 overall. Stephen Bateman at 195 was also 4th with 1 pin and is now 2-6 on the season.

Coach Brashear said, "Our wrestling as a whole was not at a level in which we desire it to be. We had to deal with some illness throughout the week, but all excuses aside, we just need to work harder at practice and transition that work onto the competition mats." The Longhorns will be in Bridgeport this Saturday for the annual Sidney/Bridgeport Tournament with wrestling set to begin at 9 a.m. Their schedule shows them at the Hershey/Chase County Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 19, with mat time at 4 p.m.
