Foundation's Holiday Spirit Trees help keep 25 years of memories alive

A community-wide tradition of honoring loved ones with a "Gift of Love" has reached its 25th year at Kimball Health Services.

The Kimball Hospital Foundation invites residents to honor someone special in their life through the Foundation's Holiday Spirit program. Residents fill out "Gift of Love" cards displaying the loved one's name on the front and their name(s) on the back. The cards, which represent gifts of any amount, are displayed in the hospital during the holiday season.

For donations of more than $100, colorful brass ornaments are engraved with a loved one's name by Larsen's Jewelry. The ornaments are carefully placed on the Foundation's Holiday Spirit Trees year after year.

"The Kimball High School Civics Class was once again a huge help with decorating the spirit trees with literally hundreds of ornaments collected over 25 years of giving," said Kerry Ferguson, Foundation Director. "This special fundraising effort has become an important way for people to remember someone special at Christmas time and help carry on traditions with families and friends."

Like all donations to the Foundation, Holiday Spirit contributions are used to purchase needed equipment for Kimball Health Services, Ferguson said.

The fundraising target for the 2017 campaign is a new blood coagulation analyzer for use in the hospital laboratory, an important piece of equipment for helping patients avoid excessive bleeding, stroke, heart attack and other serious conditions.

"Just as these ornaments help provide lasting memories of loved ones, these gifts help provide quality healthcare for our community for years to come," Ferguson said.

Response to a mail invitation to participate in the Holiday Spirit program has been very good so far, Ferguson said. Anyone who did not receive a letter but would like more information can contact the Foundation at (308) 235-1967.
