Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Roughin It

What does your hometown paper mean to you?

Is it getting the news from the local area, reading the opinions and letters to the editor? How about the first sports writing, or the great anniversary announcements? Are you a teacher and use them in your classroom for your students, or a local business that advertises with us?

What kid doesn’t want to see a picture of themselves in the paper, or read their name for that one close hometown game?

Social Media and the internet does have an important place in society but newspapers have been around for so long and they are so beloved by many. Your Western Nebraska Observer has been serving Kimball and Banner counties and surrounding locations since 1885. 132 years, The WNO is the longest business (other than farms and ranches) in the history of Kimball County.

Take a few minutes to reflect and think of times when you saw your picture in the paper for the first time or someone that you know, or what having a hometown newspapers means to you.

This week we celebrate newspapers across the country and how this town and community would be different if we didn’t have this great tradition.

What makes Kimball great is the people, businesses, and the community and that is highly reflected in every edition of the Observer.
