Lady Cats struggle to find elusive win

The Banner County Lady Wildcats faced both Hay Springs and Hemingford on Tuesday, Sept. 5, for matching 2-0 losses.

These losses could have been easily avoided, according to coach Angie Hilbert, who attributed them to a lack of communication and simple errors.

One of those simple errors, according to Hilbert was not getting to the ball.

“We will address these deficiencies in drills and conditioning,” she added.

A total of 29 serve receptions were recorded for the Banner County ladies against Hemingford, with MaKenna Dahlgrin and Jadyn Cross leading with seven each.

Emily Singleton received five serves, Jules McDonnell four, Bailee Underhill three, Rylie Mason 2 and Sierra Flores one.

Sluggish defense can be seen for the Lady Cats, with just one block recorded, a solo from Dahlgrin. Digs were a bit higher, with Dahlgrin recording three, two each from Flores and Cross, while Mason and McDonnell each added one.

Offensively, just two aces were served, one each from Dahlgrin and Flores, though serving against Hemingford went well, according to Hilbert.

“During the second set against Hemingford, we played some of our best volleyball,” she added.

Attacks against the Hemingford ladies added up to just eight, with Dahlgrin leading with five, Singleton adding two and Cross recording one.

The Lady Cats followed up with their game against Hay Springs, with the same disappointing outcome.

Again, Dahlgrin led with kills, totaling four, followed by Singleton with two and Cross with one. Singleton and Dahlgrin were the two sole ace servers of the game as well.

Defensively, the Lady Cats did not fare much better, with no blocks recorded. Dahlgrin tied at four digs each with one each from Singleton, Underhill and Mason.

“It was a disappointing night as we were capable of beating both teams had we moved, communicated, and held our composure better,” Hilbert said.
