The spring sports season is winding down, and in fact, this school year is almost over. District Track for the Kimball High tracksters is Today, Thursday, at Mitchell with a 10 a.m. start time that could possibly vary with weather conditions. The top two individuals in each event, and the winning relay teams, will all qualify for the state meet in Omaha coming up May 19-20 at Burke Stadium. There are some automatic qualifying marks as well and also some additional fastest time qualifiers from all districts.

District golf is Tuesday, May 16, at Cambridge for the Kimball High boys golf teams. the top three teams, and the top 10 individuals qualify to advance to the state tournament which will be held this year at the Meadowlark Golf Course in Kearney for the Class C Schools and dates for the state tournament are May 23-24.

Another event is happening this Saturday in Gothenburg with the State Junior High Track Meeting taking place. The top 24 times or marks from all classes qualify to take part in this growing event. This year from Kimball Ethan Ratzlaff qualified in the pole value and Samantha Bemis is a three event qualifier in the triple jump, the 100 and 200 meters. Miss Bemis is nursing a knee injury which we hope clears up before Saturday. Coach Gene Mohr will once again take the Kimball athletes to the event.

Sometimes the printed word isn’t the correct word and this happened last week when the time for Kyle Spicer in the 100 meters at the Best in the West appeared in my story as 44.51! That is a pretty slow 100 meter time. The story i submitted show it as 11.51, but after the many steps my submitted story goes through to the time it is printed in Sidney and returned to Kimball, like John Wayne said “Stuff happens” or something like that. Anyway Kyle ran 11.51. Sorry about that.
