Alexus Rozelle spins around with the discus in hand at the Kimball Invitational last Saturday. Rozelle won the event and set a new meet record with her toss of 123 feet.
Two new meet records were established Saturday at the Kimball Invitational Track and Field meet and Potter-Dix senior Alexus Rozelle put her name on both of them. The talented young lady who has signed to play volleyball at McCook Community College next fall, twirled the discus 123 feet to improve the previous record held by 11 feet as the old record of 112 feet was set by Laura Gross of Pine Bluffs in 2012. Jaden Ragsdale of Pine Bluffs saw her record in the shot put also go by the wayside as Miss Rozelle shoved the iron ball out 39'11" to better the old record of 37'2.5" that was the winning heave in year 2015. Alexus also helped the Lady Coyotes on the track, running a leg on the 4 x 100 relay team that finished second with a time of 57.70. Other team members were Payge Hoffman, Payton Franklin and Trinity Langley.
Miss Rozelle could wrestle a pair of meet records away from the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets but Potter-Dix could not take top team honors away from the Hornets who won the girl's division with 164 points with Potter-Dix runner-up with 99 points, followed by Hemingford with 68, Kimball 63, Minatare 37 and Banner County 35.
The Lady Coyotes had other outstanding performances on the day with Hoffman, already mentioned in the relay, winning the 100 meter hurdles in 18.10 and running third in the 100 meter dash in 14.40. Trinity Langley, also mentioned in the 4 x 100 relay, was second in the high jump at 4' 8" and second in the triple jump at 31'7.5" and ran fourth in the 200 meter dash 31.10.
Potter-Dix filled all of the relays with their 4 x 400 relay team of Jessica Gingerich, December Wright, Tapanga Spencer and Presley Christensen, running second in 5:26.10 and their 4 x 800 relay team of Gingerich, Spencer, Virginia Herboldsheimer and Michaela Rotert finishing second in 13:44.
Other places for the Lady Coyotes saw Spencer run third in the 800 in 3:08.30 with Gingerich sixth in 3:18.20. Rotert was fourth in the 1600 in 7:55.50 and Herboldsheimer fifth in 7:57.40. Payton Franklin was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in 19.60 and fourth in the pole vault at 7'6". December Wright was sixth in the 300 hurdles with her time of 1:04.00.
The Potter-Dix boys finished sixth in the final team standing with 31 points, but had some highlights as well. Tyrus Gawith equaled the wining height in the pole vault of 11'0" but earned second place by virtue of previous misses with Kimball's Jaden Mohr taking home the gold medal. Gawith ran third in the 400 in 56.80 and fourth in the 200 in 25.50 and joined with John Herboldsheimer, Jacob Olson and Levi Kasten to run third in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 4:19.40. An all around good day for Gawith. The 4 x 100 relay team of Kasten, Olson, Michael Steele and Terell Gray finished fourth in 54.40. Gray was fifth in the discus with a throw of 99'2" and Herboldsheimer was sixth in the triple jump at 29'3".
