This Kimball High School speech team is headed to state competition, today, Thursday, March 23 in Kearney after placing in seven events. The Kimball High School speech team competed in the district speech competition last week in North Platte and is sending 10 of 11 students to Kearney, today, Thursday, March 23 for the state competition in seven events.
Nicholas Thomas-Lewis and Desyree Nelson competed in Persuasive speaking at the district meet where Thomas-Lewis earned first place and qualified for the state meet.
Just one student, Tristen Cook, performed in the Informative Speaking event. Cook placed second at districts and will compete in the state meet.
Both Poetry students, Thomas-Lewis and Taylor Muldoon, earned state berths and first and second place at districts, respectively.
Kimball's Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) team of Audrey Day, Kiersten Anderseon, Connor Moore, Paycen Harroun and Kaden Adrian, earned third place at the district contest and will compete at State.
Two Duet teams competed, with the team of Devin Gardner and Adrian earning second place and a bid to go to the state contest. The team of Kennedy Lewis and Harroun earned fifth at districts and will not compete at State.
Lewis also competed in Extemporaneous Speaking and earned second place in that event, giving her a second opportunity to compete at the state level.
Neither student speaking in the Serious Speaking event, Taylor Muldoon and Gardner, placed at the district contest, and Moore's Humorous Prose also did not place or qualify.
Overall, the students had a great time at the district contest and the team looks forward to competing today in Kearney.
