Sisters shoot hoops for cancer

What can you do, with your abilities, to help those in need?

That question led two local sisters to help out those in need, from the basketball court.

Kimball High School’s Kate Reader, a sophomore, and sister, Alex Reader, a junior, decided to help out those who are fighting cancer, through a foundation called Team Ashtyn.

This organization was founded for those who are fighting cancer from birth to 26 years old, by a couple who were told their three-year-old daughter had leukemia. The institution was created to help them and others fighting cancer in their local town.

Alex said, “We were talking one night with our parents about what we could do with our abilities to help people who need it.”

That was when they decided their plan. For every three-pointer Alex makes and each free throw that Kate makes, they would donate to this group. Not only are they donating, but they are encouraging others to also donate through pledges.

The website to donate is: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfeLuxuE5I_TJLVW5R-4Kjn-RXA8dg_njeE-eQGS5Vn9i4FhA/viewform with the information on where it goes, how to pay, etc.

Last year Alex recorded 55 successful treys and Kate made nearly as many free throws, with 52. Those numbers could translate into big money for this worthy cause.

This is a another great way that Kimball residents are making a difference in this big world.
