Lady Horns gain a win at SPVA

The Kimball Lady Longhorns split the week beginning with a 3-0 loss against Chase County in Kimball on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Jannel Fiehtner led scoring for the Lady Horns with three points with one ace, followed by Justine Heeg with two points to her credit.

Hannah Biesecker led the attack with a total of 11 kills, followed by Raelynn Hinton with six. Fiehtner also contributed one kill as did Hailey Paxton and Kaitlyn Wurdeman.

Defensively, Hinton had the lone solo block, while Biesecker added six digs, and Fiehtner, three.

Heeg racked up eight assists against the Chase County girls.

The Kimball girls followed the loss with one win and two losses at the SPVA tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Ogallala. The Kimball girls took a 2-0 loss to North Platte St. Pat’s, followed by a 2-1 win from Perkins County, and they ended the day with a 2-0 loss by Sutherland.

Biesecker led the battle against North Platte St. Pat’s, 13-12 for the season, with three points followed by Hinton, Shauntae Daily and Kate Reader with two points each, while Fiehtner added one to the board.

Biesecker contributed eight kills to the Longhorn offense with Reader adding two of her own and Hinton, one.

Defensively no blocks were recorded but Biesecker was credited with five digs, Fiehtner with two and Hinton, one.

Heeg tallied eight assists and Fiehtner added one of her own as well.

The sets against Perkins County were much closer, as the Horns won in three sets.

Hinton was fired up and got her first double double of the season with 10 points and 11 kills.

Biesecker followed close behind with six points, one ace, and 11 kills.

Heeg added six points of her own, followed by Fiehtner and Hanna Klosterman with four each and Daily with three.

Defensively, Heeg was credited with 21 assists and Biesecker added three blocks, seven digs and an assist to the team.

Reader added two blocks, Fiehtner contributed two digs, and Hinton added a block and two digs to the efforts.

Coming off their win, the Lady Horns battled the Lady Sailors of Sutherland, but ended the day with a 2-0 loss.

Leading the fight, Biesecker was credited with six points, followed by Hinton with five, Reader and Heeg with three, and Daily added one.

Attacks were kept to a minimum, with Biesecker and Hinton tallying just four kills each while teammates Heeg and Kaitlyn Wurdeman added one each.

Defensively, Wurdeman and Biesecker each contributed one block while Biesecker added four digs, Heeg and Reader contributed two each and Hinton and Daily added one.
