Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Where are they now: David Lockwood

Finance was an aspiration of David Lockwood's since 7th grade, now the Kimball High School graduate is living his dream.

After graduation, Lockwood attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he excelled in his higher education, eventually earning himself honors and highest distinction upon graduation from the university in 2002 in Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance. Although spending much of his time studying, he had some fun jobs and was able to enjoy both study and college life. After receiving his degree, Lockwood joined the management development program at Commercial Federal Bank in Omaha, working there for several years.

At some point later, Lockwood was asked by a former co-worker to interview for a position at the Federal Home Loan Bank in Indianapolis. There he served as First Vice President, Director of Investments and was responsible for managing the profitability of over $15 billion in assets. While living in Indiana, Lockwood was also very active with an adult literacy non-profit, serving as board president.

After seven successful and happy years in Indianapolis, Lockwood jumped at the opportunity to move back to his home state and became Assurity Life Insurance Company's Chief Investment Officer last November. In his new role, Lockwood will oversee all investment activities at Assurity, hoping to, "build on our (Assurity) solid track record of investment returns over the past 125 years".

Lockwood has been working in institutional investment for over 10 years and although insurance is a new industry to him, managing money for a financial institution is not. His hope for the future is to continue, "doing something I'm intrigued by. I'll be doing investment somewhere," he said. For now, Lockwood is interested in continuing his career with Assurity.

Lockwood's personal life includes his family and wife of eight years, Tracy (Landercasper), who grew up in Gering. Her parents still live in the Scottsbluff area.

Tracy is a CPA, graduated from the University of Nebraska as well and has a Masters in Professional Accountancy. Before moving back to Lincoln, she worked for nearly ten years for KPMG, one of the big four accounting firms in the U.S. She is currently the interim CFO for the Lincoln Catholic Diocese.

Tracy and David met thru mutual friends in college, however, they didn't start dating until they had graduated and were both living in Omaha. They courted for just over two years before marrying in June of 2008.

The couple are now the proud parents of two little boys, Landon, age 5 and Austin, age 3. Lockwood and wife, Tracy, try to remain active with family whenever possible, hiking, skiing and sports.

Lockwood enjoys spending as much of his free time with his wife and young family but it's also considering looking to get involved in another non-profit in the Lincoln area as he had in Indianapolis. For the time being, he is content in taking his wife out for dates, trying new foods, and attending sporting events. Recently the family attended a Dr. Seuss Musical.

This winter, Lockwood hopes to get back into hunting and skiing as well as teaching his boys how to ski while visiting his parents, Dewain and Katharine Lockwood who live in Estes Park, Colorado.
