Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

I hope everybody had a Happy 4th of July and now it is back to work, or whatever. I ate way too much good food, watched the fireworks the Kimball Fire Department put on, played a round of golf with my grandson, and otherwise took it easy.

Not a lot of sports taking place right now, but the parking lot at the Four Winds Golf Course was full of out-of-town and out-of-state license plates the entire weekend. Lots of golfers love to make the drive to play the Four Winds. I can’t think of any other one thing that brings people to Kimball that compares to the Four Winds Golf Course.

A salute to Peggy Decaria of Cheyenne who recorded a hole in one at the Four Winds on June 28. Playing with her husband, Ken Decaria, she aced hole number 6 with a 7 iron. Get ready to do some more inscribing Greg Robinson.

Next big event at the Four Winds is this weekend, July 9-10, with the Vince’s Corner ABCD Blind Draw Tournament taking place. No need to look for signup sheets as this annual tournament has been filled for some time and there is a list of standby golfers ready to fill in if someone withdraws. For open golf on those days, and in fact for Friday also, as there will be golfers coming to town to play a practice round, be sure and call the pro shop for open golf tee times. This is another golfing event that will bring lots of golfers, and families, to town and this one is attractive to lots of former Kimball residents who like to gather each year just to renew acquaintances.

I don’t have much information to pass your way concerning the Kimball Junior Legion Baseball but I know the schedule calls for Kimball to take part in the Area 7 Tournament being held in Ravenna July 8-12. This is a state qualifying tournament.
