Lyle E. Probert

Lyle E. Probert, 70, of Cheyenne, died at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center on Friday, June 10, 2016.  Cremation has taken place and services may be held at a later date.  Friends may leave condolences and messages for the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m.  Friends may also visit http://www.cantrellfh.com to view Lyle’s Tribute Wall.  Memorials may be given in Lyle’s name to the Cheyenne Wyoming VA Hospital at 2360 East Pershing Blvd, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001.  The services for Lyle have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Lyle Eugene Probert was born in Sargent, Nebraska on March 29, 1946, the son of William and Lucille (Garris) Probert.  He moved with his family at an early age to Cheyenne, Wyoming then as a teenager to Kimball and attended school and graduated from the Kimball High School in 1964.  He enlisted in the US Navy in 1965 and honorably served as a fireman for the Navy in Monterey, California until being discharged in 1967.   He continued to serve as a civilian fireman for the Navy as a training officer; he obtained a Captain ranking in 18 months.  He was married to Catherine Erbe of Watsonville, California and later the family returned to and lived in Kimball, Nebraska.  Lyle worked for Curley’s, Halliburton, Republic Supply Co., The New Misco Supply Co., Don Gregory and Castronics.  He was a master welder and mechanic and performed various other oil field jobs over the next several years. He also owned Korks N Kans Liquor Store in Kimball from 1976-1982. He moved to Cheyenne in 1996 and drove truck for several years until his retirement in 2011.  He was living in Cheyenne at the time of his death.  He loved working on cars and was active in drag racing for many years.

Survivors include his daughter Lynn (Todd) Vogel of Kimball, NE; son Troy Probert of Cheyenne, WY; brothers Frank Probert of Douglas, WY; and Bob Probert of WaterTown, SD; grandchildren Shelby Vogel and Megan Probert.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
