Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

The 2016 Kimball High track season is over with the completion of the State meet held this past weekend. The highlight story is of course Kimball High’s Jaden Withrow winning a gold medal in the Class C triple jump and a fourth place in the long jump. He scored 15 points all by himself and the Kimball boys finished 11th in the Class C team standings, thanks to Jaden.

This week will conclude the golf season for the Kimball High boys with their qualifying for the Class C State Golf Tournament being held at the Kearney Country Club Golf Course. It is a two-day affair that was held this past Tuesday and Wednesday so we will give you all the details in next week’s paper due to our print deadline.

I need to correct a technical goof that occurred last week in my report of the Kimball High Boy’s win at the District Golf Tournament. I submitted my story, which I type at home and then turn it at the Observer offices where it is scanned, proof read, put in place by computer at the Kimball site and then sent to Sidney to be printed. For some unknown reason, at least to me, a complete sentence was left out of my story by the time the story was printed. That sentence read “A great day for freshman Zane Anthony who shot 41-42=83 to finish 9th”.

I feel bad for this mishap, but after explaining to Zane what happened, as best I could, in his humble way he informed me that it was O.K. It really wasn’t O.K. but like John Wayne always said. “Stuff happens”. It truly was a great day for Zane, and he is truly a Great young man. He has been a consistent medal winner all year for Kimball and he has a great career ahead of him as we all can see by what he has accomplished already in his freshman season. Good luck at State Zane and ALL OF YOU Kimball High golfers.

Speaking of golf, Four Winds Pro Chad Wise informs us that there will be a Yellow-Ball, 4-person golf scramble on May 29 at the Four Winds Golf Course. This is a fund-raiser tournament to benefit the golf course and is open to everyone. Full handicap will be used and there will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start. For more details and to sign up, stop at the Pro Shop or call the pro shop.
