Non-profit foundation supports local education

“The Kimball Public SchoolsFoundation does a lot of really cool things for the Kimball Public Schools, but I don’t know that people really know about us,” Foundation board member Michele Daum said.

The Kimball Public Schools Foundation was established as a non-profit organization in 1991 by business and community leaders, and though there is no membership the board is comprised of ten members elected to fill three-year terms.

The Foundation accepts donations in an effort to build a financial base to begin awarding grants for use by individual or organizations to promote, support and enhance educational-related projects according to Daum.

To date the largest donations the foundation has received have come from memorials and trusts, such as the Jim Robinson memorial, which was used to update the island at the high school, shown to the right.

As a 501(c)(3), donations to the foundation may be tax deductible.

“One of the neatest programs we offer is a Pre-School Literacy Program. The program delivers a book to children in the district from birth to age six on a monthly basis, she added. “If you have a child or know of a family who could benefit from this wonderful program, please do not hesitate to contact the Superintendent’s office to register.”

Daum added that registration is a simple process and young families are encouraged to take advantage of this no-cost benefit to them.

In addition to the literacy program, some things the foundation can provide include scholarships or teacher grants for projects and equipment.

“We have helped purchase an auto life, equipment for the ag and wood shops, Mobi units for the kindergarten classes, hoki stools for the elementary school and books for the Golden Sower program,” foundation board member Greg Robinson said.
