Withrow and Rutledge collect gold at Morrill

A solid day for the Kimball High Track Team at the George Calvert Invite held at Morrill this past Saturday. Although Mitchell won both the boy's and girl's team titles, and Bridgeport was runner up in both, the Kimball boys finished third and the Lady Longhorns fourth. The Horns had their shining moments.

Mitchell tallied 157 team points in the boy's division holding off Bridgeport who scored 150. Kimball had 105, Gering JV 36, Morrill 25, Sidney JV 21, Minatare 8, Scottsbluff JV 6, Sioux County 5, Southeast 4, Hay Springs 2, Guernsey-Sunrise 1.

In the girl's division Mitchell won with 161.5 followed by Bridgeport with 128, Morrill 76, Kimball 44.5, Southeast 36, Sioux County 19, Sidney JV 13, Minatare 11, Guernsey-Sunrise 10, Gering JV 10, Hay Springs 9, Scottsbluff JV 2.

On a beautiful track day for Western Nebraska, six records were broken and another tied. Jaden Withrow was a double winner for the Kimball boys taking the triple jump at 41'9.5" and the long jump at 19'8". He also ran fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.95 and ran a leg on the 4 x 100 relay team along with Kyle Spicer, Jaikob Cole, and Logan Stahla to finish second in 46.77.

Kimball's other gold medal performance came in the pole vault with Trent Rutledge winning at 12'6". Coach Gene Mohr then had the bar moved to 13'8" and Rutledge just grazed the bar at a very good attempt to better the Kimball High school record. Jaden Mohr finished sixth in the vault at 10'6".

Kyle Spicer had his best day of the season running second in the 200 meters with a time of 24.22 and fifth in the 100 in 11.96. Brady Kilgore continues to impress with the young freshman running second in both hurdle races clocked in 16.57 in the 110 meter highs and 43.85 in the 300 hurdles. He also was second in the high jump at 5'8" and ran a strong anchor leg on the 4 x 400 relay team that placed fourth in 4:05.64. Other team members were Nicholas Thomas-Lewis, Jacob Jenkins, and Jaden Mohr.

The 4 x 800 relay team of Lewis, Mohr, Colton Mielke, and Thomas Lenzen ran third in 10:16.21.

Brandon Barker had his best day on the track finishing second in the 3200 in a personal best time of 10:48.86 and pushing highly touted Chase Watson of Mitchell right to the tape with Watson winning in 10:48.58.

Barker was elated after the race and said "I got a really painful side stitch after the first lap and I thought I have to get through this because this is a perfect day to run. It went away and I felt good the rest of the way."

Barker came back later to run fifth in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:12.95. Kaden Adrian ran a good 800 meters finishing fifth in 2:13.25. Rutledge, along with his win in the vault also ran third in the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.64. In the almost department, Creg Barker was seventh and one place out of a medal in both the discus and shotput with marks of 113'11" and 38'6".

In the girl's division, Hannah Biesecker had a good day taking second in the high jump at 4'8" and second in the long jump at 15'1" and ran sixth in the 100 meter dash in 13.82. She was also one place out of a medal in the 200 meters.

Madison Biesecker ran fourth in the 300 hurdles in 52.08, was fifth in the high jump at 4'6" and fifth in the long jump at 14'9.5". Ali Hunsaker was second in the pole vault at 8'6" and Kate Reader was sixth at 6'6".

The 4 x 400 relay team of Alex Reader, Ali Hunsaker, Madison Wynne, and Kate Reader ran second in 4:42.42. Kate Reader also ran sixth in the 800 in 2:47.44. In the throws Macayla Bizelli was sixth in the shotput at 29'3.5" and Kaitlin Wurdeman was sixth in the discus at 82'11".

Kimball is scheduled to compete in the SPVA meet in Imperial tomorrow (Friday) weather permitting, The Best of the West meet in Scottsbluff was moved back from this past week to May 2 (Monday). The Bayard B-C-D meet is set for May 6 and then it is District Meet time on May 12 at Grant.
