Robert G. Barrett

Robert G. Barrett, 70, of Kimball died at the University of Colorado Medical Center on January 22, 2016 following a heart transplant on December 25, 2015. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball with father Robert Karnish officiating. Private family inurnment will be held. Christian wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or Kimball Junior Golf Program. The services for Robert have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Robert "Bob" Glenn Barrett was born in Kimball on December 10, 1945 to Glenn and Erma (Frerichs) Barrett. He was the third of four children. Sports were a big part of his life. He loved playing baseball as a youth. He played football and basketball and ran track in High School. Football is the sport he loved, earning All-Conference Honors in 1963. During the last 50 years, golf became his passion. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Jean Morgan, on August 6, 1966. To this union, two daughters and a son were born, Julie, Cindy and Jim. After graduating from the University of Wyoming in 1968, Bob began working at Banner County Bank in Harrisburg, NE. He and his family moved to Basin, WY in 1970 where he was employed at Security State Bank as an Agriculture lender. With the failing health of his father, Bob moved his family back to Kimball and farmed for 25 years before going back to his banking career. As his health failed, he retired from FirsTier Bank in Kimball. Bob loved playing golf with a special group of friends and especially enjoyed spending time with his wonderful grandchildren. Bob served on many boards and committees including St. Joseph's Church, FirsTier Bank, City Housing Agency, Kimball Public Schools, Ministerial Association, FSA County Committee and the Hospital Foundation.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Barrett of Kimball; Children, Julie Barrett-Becker of Westminster CO, Cindy Birner (Tom) of Sidney NE, and Jim Barrett (Kellie) of Tucson, AZ; Grandchildren, Rachael Becker, Ryan Birner, Kara Birner, Nicole Birner, Anderson Barrett and Aubree Barrett; Sisters, Betty Hamzy of Sacramento, CA and Judy McMillian of Spokane, WA, and his mother-in-law Evelyn Morgan, as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Glenda Koenig, father-in-law, Merle Morgan, niece, Troy Hamzy, and great-nephew, Sgt Nathan Beyers.
