Huff urges - clean sidewalks

The season of snow is upon us, and worse, ice.

Kimball Police Chief Darren Huff reminds citizens that, by ordinance, sidewalks in the business district are to be cleared of snow, ice or other substances within five hours after a storm stops.

If a winter storm occurs through the night citizens are given until 9 a.m. the following morning to clear the walks in downtown Kimball.

Additionally, private walks must be cleaned within 24 hours after the cessation of the storm.

Huff’s concern is for the safety of everyone in our community.

“We aren’t going to be out issuing citations, I’m just concerned with safety and the liability,” he said. “There is also a liability to the responsible party if someone is injured where the sidewalk was not cleared.”
