Robert D. Dunkin, Sr.

Robert D. Dunkin, Sr., 81,of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Kimball Presbyterian Church with Pastor Chris Plantz and Pastor Alan Foutz officiating. Cremation has been held and inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. to sign the register book and leave condolences for the family. Memorials have been established in honor of his grandson AJ Spicer to Craig Hospital where they specialize in "Redefining Possible" for those living with spinal cord injuries, at 3425 S. Clarkson Street, Englewood, CO., 80113. The services for Robert have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Robert Douglas Dunkin, Sr. was born on July 12, 1934, the son of William and Alyce (Jorgensen) Dunkin in Lincoln, NE. He moved with his family to Lander, Wyoming and attended school and graduated from the Fremont County Vocational High School in 1952. Bob attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie for one semester. He then enlisted in the Marines Corp and served his country until being discharged due to medical reasons. He attended Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. Bob continued his education by attending Hastings College. He returned to Lander and worked at Hallam Chevrolet as a mechanic. He then worked for Susquehanna Western making sulfuric acid into yellow cake used for bomb making and later worked for the Wyoming State Highway Department. Bob went back to school in 1965 and received his teaching degree from the University of Wyoming. He moved to Kimball and taught machine shop and drafting at the Kimball County High School. He was instrumental in getting the new shop building built at the high school. During the summers he and George Barp started Dunbar Construction, remodeling homes as well as building them. He retired from teaching in 1989. He owned the Kimball Travel Center from 1979 until 2000 and the NAPA Store from 1990 until 1995. He enjoyed woodworking, machining different things and making jewelry among other hobbies. He was a member and Past President of the Kimball Rotary Club and the Episcopal Church. He was a scoutmaster for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his coffee buddies. His family was an important part of his life.

Survivors include his wife Beverly Dunkin of Kimball; son Robert Dunkin, Jr. and son Robie Dunkin, III and his daughter Rylea Dunkin all of Kimball, NE; daughters Carol Bennett and Patty Thiel and children Danie Thiel, Emily Thiel and Jordan Thiel all of Cheyenne, WY and Laurie Spicer and children AJ Spicer, Kyle Spicer and Megan Spicer all of Kimball, NE; brother Warren (Evelyn) Dunkin of Denver, CO, brother- in- law George Darlington (Carol); numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Pat Dunkin.
