Coyotes fall to Garden County

An offensive explosion in the first quarter helped propel Garden County High School to a 70-26 victory over Potter-Dix last Friday night.

The Eagles put up 46 points in the opening 12 minutes to remain undefeated at 6-0. Potter-Dix slipped to 0-6 on the 2015 campaign.

In the opening quarter, Garden County’s Matt McCarthy scored on runs of 50 and 48 yards and teammate Elliot Epp found the end zone from 25 and 27 yards out. Epp also returned a fumble eight yards for a score. Nic Kopp, who contributed three touchdowns in the contest, scored on a 37-yard run to round out the first-period scoring. Potter-Dix got on the scoreboard with two second-quarter scores. Justice Palmer had a 22-yard touchdown run and Kelsey Rozelle followed that up with a 60-yard scoring dash. Rozelle scored another touchdown in the third quarter, this time on a 1-yard run. Then, quarterback Noah Nelson hit Rozelle with a 12-yard scoring strike to account for the Coyotes’ final points.

Defensively, Epp had 22 tackles for Garden County. Potter-Dix hosts South Platte (2-4) this Friday night at 7 p.m.
