Fighting cancer at the Relay For Life

Preliminary funds raised from the 2015 American Cancer Society's Relay For Life in Kimball total more than $6,000, according to chairperson Fran Wallin, whose goal was to raise $7,500.

The event was held last Friday at Gotte Park and it included a bake sale and a silent auction, both of which were very successful.

Wallin wishes to remind those who won items during the silent auction and have not picked them up to call her to arrange a pickup. Some silent auction items did not sell, Wallin said, so anyone interested in particular items can call her as well.

"I feel fortunate that we made that much with the events going on at the same time for Cody Halligan," Wallin stated.

A benefit hog roast and hamburger feed was held Friday night at the Bushnell Fire Hall for Halligan, a lifelong Bushnell resident who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.

Funds that have been raised to assist him and his family will be presented to Halligan at the Bushnell Fire Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
