Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Hanks, Dahlgrin participate in hoops all-star games

It's All Star time! The summer All Star High School sports games are underway and we have some of our immediate area young athletes involved.

Jessica Hanks, recent Kimball High grad, was busy this past weekend playing in two All Star Basketball games. On Friday night she was honored by being selected to play in the Mid-Plains College All Star game held at the College gymnasium in North Platte and she played like an All Star. Didn't score but 2 points but took only 2 shots, but she worked hard on the boards with several rebounds and played solid defense like she did all four years for the Lady Longhorns.

On Saturday she hustled up to Scottsbluff and got in on a morning practice session after missing the Friday night one because she was busy in North Platte. She was ready to go come 5:30 game time at Cougar Palace and helped her Red team to a 62-54 victory. Did I mention her team at North Platte ended up on the losing side? Again, she didn't do much shooting, but made one of her two shots taken, had her share of rebounds, and played solid defense once again. Now she should be shooting more as she certainly knows how. She showed that by winning the girls three point shooting contest making 6 of her 12 attempts under the time limit allotted. She received a nice plaque to prove her long range shooting abilities over all the other all stars.

What was also neat to see was the chance for Jessica to play one more time for her Kimball High coach, Chauncey Pedersen, who was one of the coaches for the Red Team, and they got to notch up one more win together.

Tyson Dahlgrin, Banner County High standout, was a member of the boys All Star Red Team at the Panhandle Prep All Star game that followed the girls game. The 6'3" Wildcat standout who is headed to Dordt College in Iowa on a basketball scholarship showed he can play with the Stars of the big schools. He made the slam dunk field and had a real good first dunk out of his three attempts. He also pulled down a ton of rebounds and had double figure scoring with 11 points. His Red team ended up losing 110 to 98.
