Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Entrepreneurship Camp set for this summer

Explore your business personality, talents and hobbies. Learn how to turn these interests into a business idea. Campers will be challenged to think about business needs in their communities and how to market local businesses.  Meet local entrepreneurs and tour local businesses. Camp culminates with your business presentation during the county fair.

The Kimball Public Library and the Cheyenne, Kimball-Banner County 4-H and Extension are co-sponsoring an educational opportunity for the youth in the community which will begin June 2, and meet each Tuesday for seven weeks.

The word entrepreneurship is a big word and a little scary, but it is the development of a business from the ground up — coming up with an idea and turning it into a profitable business. Young people have lots of ideas and there is a need for employment for young people.

This educational opportunity will help budding business youth identify strengths, create a business with a business plan and develop a marketing strategy. The program will include meeting local business people, touring businesses, applying for a business loan and working with educational experts. There won’t be any grading, but you will gain satisfaction in creating a new business or making a business that already exists better.

The camp is open to sixth graders and up (even an adult or two). Space is limited to ten. Applications are available at the Kimball Public Library and the Kimball-Banner County Extension Office. If you are a 4-H member, the camp is free. Otherwise the material fee is $20. It is possible that grant money is available, so please talk to us about it. The Extension is encouraging participants to show case their learning and business results at the Fair or a 4-H event yet to be determined. 4-H membership and exhibition are not mandatory.

The application deadline is May 22.

“Please encourage your young people to apply for this educational opportunity. It will be great fun to see what they come up with,” said Cynthia Gill of the Extension.

For questions, contact Cynthia Gill or Anna Ehler at one of the Nebraska Extension offices. Call the Kimball office at 308-235-3122 or the Sidney office at 308-254-4455. The offering will be held in Cheyenne County on Monday afternoons.
