Commissioners discuss phone systems

The Kimball County commissioners heard a proposal about a phone system at Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The assessor, district clerk, and sheriff’s offices requested sidecar telephones. These phones are programmable so that they allow a better overall view of who is currently on the phone and whose lines are available. These come in handy when transferring calls, as well as preventing unnecessary interruptions.

The cost for an eight-line sidecar phone is roughly $300, and a six-line sidecar phone is $285 in addition to two hours of programming. The commissioners made no decision on the proposal, which will be brought up for discussion at a later date.

Due to the morning snow on Tuesday, the roads department representative was not able to be present.

County zoning administrator Sheila Newell was present to set public hearing times to receive comments concerning the conditional use permits being requested by High West Energy. The public hearings will all be held the morning of March 3 at the county commissioners meeting at the Kimball County Courthouse.

Newell also brought to the attention of the commissioners National Ag Week, which will be held March 15-21. The commissioners will proclaim that March 18 is the official day for Kimball County to observe National Ag Day. This proclamation will be proclaimed at the next commissioners meeting.

It was also announced that County Government Day will be held Monday, March 23.

The next commissioners meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3.
