Split weekend for Lady Longhorns basketball

It was a split weekend for the Kimball Lady Longhorn basketball team as they lost to Hershey on Friday night 38-32 but came roaring back on Saturday eveing to win over Bayard 76-51, running their season record going into the Holiday break at 4-2.

Foul trouble and poor field goal shooting was the down fall of the Lady Horns on Friday. The two clubs battled evenly the first half tied 8-8 at the quarter break and 16-16 at half time. Kimball was missing freshman standout Alex Reader who was home sick with the flu. Madison Biesecker and Kailey Dickerson both picked up 2 quick fouls in the first period and Alexis Gawith came off the bench and promptly got 3 fouls.

Hershey pulled away in the third period' to take a 29-20 lead into the final quarter and hold on for the win. The winners were whistled, for 20 fouls, shot 10/17 at the line, were 11/31 on 2 point field goals and 2/14 on 3 point attempts, and pulled 22 rebounds. They were led by Taylor Mustion and Hannah Johnson, both with 17 points.

Kimball had two players in double figure scoring with Madison Biesecker with 10 including 1 trey and 3/3 free throw shooting, along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Danika Daum also had 10 with 1 trey and was 2 of 19 from the field and 5/9 at the line, also~ with 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Jessica Hanks had 5 points on 5/8 foul shooting, plus 4 rebounds, Arica McCloud 4 points and a team high 11 rebounds, Kailey Dickerson had 2 points and Myriah Tyan 1.

In team stats, Kimball was 16/27 at the line, 5/33 on 2 point field goals and 2/17 on 3 pointers, had 35 rebounds, 18 fouls, an 18 turnovers.

The Kimball ladies got their game back on track Saturday and after a first half that saw it remain close with Kimball on top 32-29 at half time, the local crew exploded in the third period to outscore the visiting Lady Tigers 22-2 to coast to the win.

All ten girls suited for Kimball scored led by Daum with 21 to go with her 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks. Arica McCloud with a solid game scoring 14 points with 1 trey, 5 rebounds 2 steals and 2 assists. Alex Reader was back in form after sitting out Friday and tallied 11 going 3 of 6 from 3 point range, had 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Madison Biesecker with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jessica Hanks 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Myriah Tyan 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. Kailey Dickerson 4 points and 3 assists. Alexis Gawith 3 with a trey, Jannel Fiehtner and Ireland Olson both with 2 points.

As a team, Kimball had 18 fouls, 16 turnovers, were 5/14 at the foul line, 28/69 on 2 point field goals, 5/15 on 3 point ,tries, had 18 offensive and 24 defensive rebounds, 16 steals, 18 assists and 2 blocked shots.

Bayard had 34 rebounds, 10 fouls, were 7/14 at the line, 19/51 on 2 point fielders and 2/13 on 3 pointers. They were led in scoring by Chelllani Parriott with 15, Miah Vera with 14, Jessi Smith 10, Amber Willey 10, and Kaylie Fiscus 2.
