Bountiful opening weekend for deer hunting

The opening weekend of the Nebraska Firearm deer season proved to be bountiful with 101 deer checked in at the Kimball check-in station located once again at Sportsman's Liquor Store.

The cold weather with freezing temperatures~along with snow and blowing snow didn't seem to affect the hunting, and perhaps even improved it with the animals moving about. According to Lisa Wangler at Sportsman's Liquor, there were a lot of big bucks checked in this year and from the 101 checked in through Sunday evening, only 24 were does and only 7 were whitetails with the balance of the mule deer species. The fire arm season runs through this Sunday so the total checked in at the Kimball location should grow. Wangler also said there were quite a few out of state licenses filled including one from as far away as Louisiana.

We have acquired some pictures to share with you readers and invite hunters to bring in, or e-mail your photos as the final week of the season plays out.
