Commissioners vote to renew wireless contract with Viaero

Kimball County decided to renew its contract with Viaero wireless during Monday’s meeting of the county commissioners. The meeting was held Monday instead of the usual Tuesday date, due to the election.

Before deciding to renew the wireless contract with Viaero, the commissioners directed County Clerk Cathy Sibal to look into the cell phone coverage in which the county reimburses its employees and see if they could be switched to Viaero. This could potentially save the county money.

Dave Hottell, county highway superintendent, gave an update on the roads department. A safety seminar will take place for the roads department, and will also concern equipment handling and job safety. Also by January, Hottell said he will have a map drawn out of the roads that he thinks should be considered low maintenance. By adding a few more roads to this list, Hottell hopes to save money that the county spends on fuel, in addition to saving time of his workers.

The board also discussed LB560, which will change the way county employees will receive their pay. Commissioners described it as frustrating yet necessary to be in compliance with governmental statutes.

Commissioner Larry Engstrom was not present at Monday’s meeting.
