Lady Longhorns run season record to 7-5

Some exciting volleyball action for the Kimball High Lady Longhorns this past week as they ran their season record to 7 wins and 5 losses. At the Hemingford triangular they lost to the host school 18-25 and 24-26, but cam back strong to win over Gordon-Rushville 25-22, 22-25 and 25-18.

Coach Vicki Mitchell said, "We lost a close one to Hemingford after beating them on Saturday. The problems we made were fixable mistakes. In one set, most of their points scored were from unforced errors. If we eliminate even half of those errors it will be a different game for us. We look forward to the next time we meet and plan to work on our inconsistent play. The girls did respond well shortly after that loss and came through with a win over Gordon-Rushville." In the Hemingford match Madison Biesecker led in kills with 5 and set assists with 8 with

Danika Daum close behind with 4 and 7. Ali Hunsaker had 9 digs and Raelynn Hinton 8.

In the win over Gordon-Rushville, Daum had 9 points, 13 kills, 14 assists and 17 digs. Madison Biesecker had 11 kills, 11 assists and 12 digs. Hannah Biesecker had 8 service points and 14 digs. Ali Hunsaker had 14 digs and Hinton 11.

This past Thursday the Lady Horns played at home hosting Pine Bluffs and treated the fans to some very exciting volleyball but ended up losing in 5 sets by scores of 24-26, 25-13, 15-25, 25-19 and 12-15.

Coach Mitchell said, "We seem to be having trouble winning games on our home court. We really appreciate the wonderful hometown crowd along with our fantastic pep band and student body which provide a great atmosphere. While we did have some exciting play we didn't pull out the last set to get the win. We need to be able to step up and finish the close games. I really believe that we have the potential to be very successful and we will do everything we can to put the best combination of players on the court so we can be competitive with everyone we see."

In the Pine Bluffs match, Daum had 12 points, 16 kills, 23 assists, and 13 digs. Madie Snyder had 11 points and Hannah Biesecker 8. Madison Biesecker had 18 kills, 18 assists, and 18 digs. Ali Hunsaker had 17 digs, Jannel Fiehtner and Hinton 10 each.

Coach Mitchell listed as highlights of the week Jannel Fiehtner stepping in to play libero for her first time and providing some great back row support. She also said Myriah Tyan gave the team a spark in the front row with her quick reactions. The freshman team and JV team both had wins this week which is a testament to their improved play which will in turn push the varsity players.

This past Tuesday Kimball went to Alliance. Tonight (Thursday) they are at Sidney for a triangular involving Gering with play beginning at 4 p.m.
