Local Girl Scout sells over 1,500 boxes of cookies

Local resident, Jessica Williams, daughter of Daniel and Rose Ellen Williams, has earned the title of 3rd top Girl Scout Cookie seller in the entire state of Nebraska.

Williams, 14, has been a girl scout since she was in the fourth grade and is one of 44 girls scouts who sold over 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in 2013, leading the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska council to create a ‘1,000 club’. Previously, the council’s top recognition level was for girls selling 500 boxes.

“It’s pretty cool, because there are only 44 people who got into the club out of Nebraska, and being the third one is pretty awesome,” Williams said.

Williams sold 1,562 boxes of cookies in just a few months, racking up the high sales number through booth sales.

“I went up to the TA up in Cheyenne and set up a table and sold a bunch of cookies like that,” Williams said.

Motivation is key in any type of situation, and Williams’ motivation resided in the prize that came with reaching the 1,500 box mark.

“One of the prizes was an iPad Mini, and that was like a 1,500 so I really wanted that,” Williams said.

When she was informed that she had reached her goal, Williams couldn’t contain her excitement over her hard work paying off.

“I started screaming and jumping up and down and my mom had to calm me down,” Williams said.

Williams' achievement not only got the attention of her local girl scout group and her family, but also grabbed the attention of Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska CEO Fran Marshall, who had nothing but words of praise for the dedication that Williams showed in her participation in the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

“Jessica is an amazing girl who truly aspires to the Girl Scout mission of making the world a better place,” Marshall said. “All of the proceeds we receive through our annual cookie sale are used to help support everything we do. So, Jessica’s success with the Girl Scout Cookie Program helps over 18,000 Girl Scouts and 5,300 adult volunteers in Nebraska.”

The 1,000 club members will gather for special recognition events, hosted by Marshall, in Ogallala, Grand Island, Omaha, Columbus and Lincoln. During the events, each girl will share the successful selling strategies she used to achieve her individual sales goal.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led business in the world, and it is also the primary source of funding for Girl Scout activities throughout the year, such as community service projects, environmental programs, camping adventures, field trips and travel to destinations domestically and internationally with all proceeds from the Spirit of Nebraska Girl Scout Cookie Product Program remaining in Nebraska.

Currently, there are 3.2 million girl and adult members worldwide in the Girl Scouts, who will develop their potential with support from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The Girls Scouts Spirit of Nebraska is the largest girl-serving organization in the state with 26,000 members.
