Lorene Shaw

Lorene Shaw, 95, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Sunday, August 18, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Ken Boston officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Mary Lorene Shaw was born in Fullerton, Nebraska on January 14, 1918, the daughter of Winfield and Anna (Penick) Anderson. She moved with her family to Banner County in 1926 where she attended country schools. She graduated from the Bushnell High School in 1935. She attended the University of Nebraska. Lorene met and then was married to John Shaw on June 22, 1938, at the Calvary Methodist Church in Bushnell, a church her grandfather helped build.

They lived in Banner County and then moved to Scottsbluff and then to the family farm north of Bushnell in Kimball County, a home in which she lived in for over 50 years. She moved to Kimball in 1996 and then to the Kimball County Manor in 2007.

She was a fantastic cook and seamstress and earned the grand champion award at the county style review, an award that earned her a place at the state fair. Lorene made the best fried chicken, she was active in 4-H and was a den mother in boy scouts. She was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there.

Survivors include her sons Doug (Patty) Shaw of Bushnell, NE., and Jack (Karin) Shaw of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Mary Joyce (Bill) Booker of McCool Junction, NE; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandsons Andy Shaw, Rodney Kennedy, and Scott Booker; brother DeRoy Anderson and sisters Helen Richards and Roberta Robb.
