    Smiles and laughter dotted the faces throughout Harry McNees Auditorium Saturday night - the only appropriate place for the program of the Kimball High School All-Class Reunion. More than 560 KHS graduates were in town for the weekend to attend the reunion, which was first held in 1994.   • 'Penny war' at manor raises funds for Deshler nursing home in need

    After spring floods devastated a nursing home in Deshler, employees at the Kimball County Manor turned to a 'penny war' as a fun way to help out. May floods caused the evacuation of residents from the nursing home in the small town southeast of Grand Island, with a population of about 800. Although they have returned, there is much work to do.     The Kimball County Veterans Service Office is busy with three new initiatives. The first is the Stuff-A-Shirt program, which is designed to give the homeless and transients a clean shirt and other hygiene items.     The Kimball Board of Education held a special meeting June 30 to review and vote on bids to replace the all-weather track at the high school.     An unknown white male driving a white minivan approached an 11-year-old juvenile female Monday, July 6, in the Beech Street and I-80 overpass construction area on the east side of Pine Bluffs, asking if she needed a ride, according to Pine Bluffs Police Department The girl refused the ride.   • Investigation underway for 20-plus minors in possession

    More than 20 minors were found in possession of alcohol Saturday around 10:30 p.m., according to Kimball County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Brandon Loy. Loy, with Deputy Travis Terrill, cited many of the minors, though some were released without citations. Names of minors involved are not released and Loy did not comment on the location of the incident. At press time no adults were cited with procuring or contributing, Loy said, and no further information is currently available as the event is still under investigation....

    Every hero has a story, and the Kimball Public Library sure had plenty of heroes last week to wrap up its annual summer reading program. There were more than 60 children registered in the library's summer reading program this year, and an average of 48 showed up each week.     The senior 4-H livestock judging team from Kimball consisting of Tyler Shaw, Rowdy Keller, Clay Keller and Payton Flower placed second out of 32 teams at the state 4-H Livestock Judging Contest held in Lincoln on June 30. Individually, Tyler Shaw placed sixth, Rowdy and Clay Keller placed ninth and 10th, respectively, and Payton Flower was 15th out of 136 contestants. The team is coached by Tessa Shaw.
