Longhorns XC Hosts WTC Meet On Oct. 2

On Monday, October 2, the Longhorn cross country team will host the WTC meet at the Four Winds Golf Course. The day should be perfect for catching a glimpse of the runners, with the high expected to be 79 degrees and sunny. The meet starts at 11 a.m.

Personal records were set by Braxton Miller, Trey Cook, Eddie Duran, and Kip Gillming at the Ogallala Invite. Coach Johnson said the kids “continue to work hard and improve from meet to meet.”

The cross country team competed with a variety of larger schools at the Ogallala Invite on Thursday, September 21. Braxton Miller ran 19:10.63, earning him 43rd place in a challenging, fast field of runners. The winning time was 15:59.61, belonging to Mason McGreer of Perkins County.

Braylon Miller and Trey Cook placed 65th and 66th just over the 20-minute mark, followed by Eddie Duran in 68th running the course in 20:52.35.

Conrad Kaminski was 84th and Peter Russell came in 93rd.

In the girls division, Shannen Acheson was 48th with a time of 26:18.20.

Johnson said, “We are excited for the next few weeks at WTC, which is here on Monday, followed by SPVA on Thursday in Grant. Then it’s districts. Hopefully, we continue to improve our times to place in those meets. We are proud of the kids’ efforts this far.”

Coach Johnson continues to be excited for the remaining season.

“I know that I feel these kids are capable of running,” she said, “and I just need them to believe it, too!”
