Kimball JH Football Wins 2 Of 3

The Kimball Junior High football season came to a close this past week with a win over Morrill. Here we’ll look back to cover the final 3 games on the schedule.

Kimball 32,

Bayard 6

The Shorthorns won 32-6 over Bayard on the road. Kimball led 24-0 at halftime with the line doing a great job of pushing the young Tigers around and the Kimball backs running Tough, according to coach Dane Wurdeman.

“The best part of this game was seeing all of our young players get quality experience. This was a game in which the inside run was working well. It is satisfying as a coach to watch those inside plays getting 5 or 6 yards,” Wurdeman said.

Bridgeport 40,

Kimball 6

On October 10th, Kimball travelled to Bridgeport to play the Bulldogs for the second time. The first time these two teams met it was a hard fought game, but not this time as Bridgeport dominated and won 40-6. Coach Wurdeman said, “They came out and had their way with us. I have to give them credit for having a great game plan. They ran a whole different offense and had us on our heels all game. We moved the ball at times, but couldn’t put a drive together. We are not a big play team. We are more of a 3 yards and a cloud of dust team. When we made a mistake, or had a loss on a down, it was hard to recover. The high point was watching Noe Trevino with his hits on defense. Braxton Miller was able to score a TD for us late in the game.”

Kimball 38,

Morrill 6

The final game of the season for Kimball was October 20th against Morrill on the home field. Wurdeman said, “We won the game 38-6 and it was a great way to end the season.”

Kimball scored first but missed the PAT. On the ensuing kickoff, Morrill took it all the way back for a TD.

“We kept our heads up and were able to shut them out the rest of the game,” Wurdeman said. “At one point they made it to the 2 yard line, but our defense stepped up and stopped them. I have to give Braxton Miller credit for his job on defense as he was making tackles whenever they ran the ball his way.”

Wurdeman said Trevor Fuss, playing inside linebacker, was playing a little hurt but controlled the middle well, and said the defensive line of Connor Deboodt, Suriel Lozoya, and Aspyn Tyan were hard for the Lions to handle.

“Branson Kiefer and Trenton Hottell played our corners and did a good job of never letting them get in the end zone,” Wurdeman said. “We had a great balance of scoring. Kyler Lusche connected with Jacob Wendt from the tight end for a long TD pass. Connor Deboodt scampered 40 yards for a TD. Shay Heim was a force outside on those tosses for 2 touchdowns. Our other score came from Noe Trevino on a kick return. We as coaches are so proud of their work and it was a pleasure to coach these young men.”
