Kimball runners missed state berth

Kimball Cross Country had their District meet last Thursday in Bayard at Chimney Rock Golf Course.

Coach Johnson said all of the Kimball athletes ran really well and all tried their hardest. “Sadly none of them qualified for state,” she added.

Thomas Lenzen just missed a state birth by four places. Only 15 individuals and three teams qualify for state, Lenzen placed 19 at Districts.

Johnson says she was very proud of the boys, “as a team they finished fifth, beating teams that had beat us (Kimball) all year.”

Seniors from this year will be missed by all but Johnson is looking forward to next year with the athletes that are returning plus the incoming freshman.

Results from 2017 Districts Meet, again Thomas Lenzen just finished out of the top 15 for state, placing in the number 19 spot with a time of 19:49, Garrett Pedersen had the number 28 spot with a time of 20:40, right on his heels was Kaden Adrian with a time of 20:42 for 29, Nicholas Thomas-Lewis ended the season with a time of 21:26, Brady Kilgore had a time of 25:46, and Cole Henton with a time of 26:10 with a total of 80 boys in the race.

High school girls had a good day as well, with Brandi Councilman finishing with a time of 28:00 in 43 place, and Kaylyn Nelson with a time of 34:47 in 55. There were a total of 58 girl runners.
