Kimball boys, girls junior varsity basketball teams have solid week

The Kimball Junior Varsity basketball teams provided fans with some exciting play again this past week. At Sutherland on Friday night the Kimball boys had no problem in winning a two quarter contest 38-20 with Jordan Greenwood scoring 13, Ethan Land 10, Jaden Withrow 8, Jaicob Cole 6, and Ryan Soper 1. Cole hit a pair of treys, Land and Greenwood 1 each.

The Kimball girls didn't fare as well at Sutherland losing 51-38. Jannel Fiehtner was high with 13, Alex Reader had 7, Myriah Tyan 6, Hannah Biesecker 4, Ireland Olson 3, Justine Heeg 3, and Kaitlin Wurdeman 2. Olson, Fiehtner, Reader, and Heeg all had treys.

Against North Platte St. Pats on Saturday, the Irish won both boys and girls contests but both were nail biters to the end. The Kimball boys came back from trailing by 16 points to lose 57-54. Trailing 55-48, Trent Rutledge converted a 4 point play by swishing a 3 pointer, was fouled, and made the free throw, to close to 55-52. Jaden Withrow drove the lane and scored a few seconds later to close to 55-54 but St. Pats won it by making 2 more free throws and Kimball missing on three attempts that were close from 3 point range to send it to overtime.

Ethan Land had 14 with 2 treys, Trent Rutledge 11 with 1 trey, Jaden Withrow 12, Jordan Greenwood 8 with a trey, Jaicob Cole 5 with a trey, Kole Bush 2, and AJ Williams 2.

The girls game was just as close with St. Pats winning 37-35. Jannel Fiehtner hit a 3 pointer at the very end to close to within the final 2 point margin. Fiehtner led with 11, Hannah Biesecker had 7 with 1 trey, Alex Reader 8, Ireland Olson 6 with 2 treys, and Lila Moore 1, and Myriah Tyan 2.

Earlier in the week, the Kimball JV girls on Tuesday won at Mitchell, 42-33. Kimball won out 42-33 busting out to a 14-4 first quarter lead and hanging on for the win. A total of 8 girls scored for Kimball led by Alex Reader and Shauntae Daily with 9 each as Miss Daily had her best showing of the season. Myriah Tyan had 8, Justine Heeg 5 , Hannah Biesecker 3, Jannel Fiehtner 3, Kennedy Lewis 3, and Kaitlin Wurdeman 2. Kimball charted 4 treys with Reader hitting for a pair, Heeg and Lewis 1 each. Olivia Armstrong led Mitchell with 16.
