Kimball takes third at WTC Conference tourney

A winning week of volleyball for the Kimball High Lady Longhorns as they ran their season record to 14 wins and 12 losses. It started with a dual win at Grant as they handled Perkins County in 3 straight sets of 25-14 25-21 25-14. No problem for the Kimball ladies in this match with lots of players getting court time.

On Saturday it was off to Mitchell for the Western Trails Conference Tournament. Bridgeport is the 2014 WTC Conference Champions with Mitchell 2nd and Kimball 3rd. In first round play, Kimball won over Gordon Rushville 25-13 25-7 in what coach Vicki Mitchell termed, "Our best team effort of the season. All of our players had great games." Gordon Rushville went on to defeat Morrill and Hemingford.

Kimball met up with the eventual champions in the semi finals and gave great effort before losing to Bridgeport 25-27 21-25. To their credit, the Kimball girls came back to win over Bayard 25-21 25-13 to earn their 3rd place honors. Bayard had won over Hemingford and lost to Mitchell before falling to Kimball.

In the win over Gordon Rushville Raelynn Hinton and Madie Snyder shared serving honors with 7 each and they both had 5 kills. Madison Biesecker had 6 kills, 13 assists, and 2 blocks. Danika Daum led with 14 assists and had 6 kills. Hinton and Ali Hunsaker led in digs with 5 each.

In the Bridgeport match Biesecker had 7 kills, 10 assists, and 3 blocks. Daum had 6 kills, 8 assists and 5 digs. Hinton had 7 points and 5 digs. Biesecker had a big game against Bayard with 14 points, 5 kills and 12 assists. Myriah Tyan chipped in with 9 service points, and Daum had 8 kills.

For the season, Kimball is serving 90.8%, averaging 9.4 kills, 8.6 assists, and 15.8 digs. Kimball closed out the regular season this past Tuesday evening on the home court hosting Sidney and move into subdistrict tournament play at Gering on Monday, November 3. The four teams involved include Kimball, Bridgeport, Bayard and Hemingford, but at the time of this writing, the seedings were not announced. We do know that Kimball has claimed wins over all three of the other teams, and we do know that the times of the matches will be 5:15 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:45 p.m. Go early and see them all.
